Liu was chartered in Brooklyn in 1926 by the New York State Department of Education to provide "effective and mid-priced education" from "all walks of life". LIU Brooklyn is located in downtown Brooklyn, on the corner of Flatbush and DeKalb Avenues. The main building is adjacent to the 1920s cinema Paramount Theatre (now known as the Schwartz Arena). The building retains many original decorative details and a fully usable Wurlitzer organ rises from under the basketball court floor . The campus is composed of nine academic buildings; an entertainment and sports complex, including a sports field specified by Part I; a campus and two nearby residential buildings; and an adjacent parking facility. The campus is the location of the university’s oldest school-Liu An Pharmacy (Arnold & Marie Schwartz School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences), which was founded in 1891 as the Brooklyn School of Pharmacy, and a four-year university bachelor's degree program Liu International (LIU Global) allows students to live and study internationally in eight countries/regions in eight semesters. Brooklyn Liu is home to the NCAA Division I Blackbird, the George Polk Award for Excellence in Journalism, and the Kumble Theatre.
In 1951, in response to more and more families moving to the suburbs, Liu Xiang's heir Marjorie Merriweather Post and her third husband Joseph E. Davies purchased a 177-acre (72 hectare) manor called Hillwood. The original house Warburton Hall in Brookville, Long Island’s Gold Coast was built by William A. Prime and was fully renovated by Marjorie and her second husband Edward Hutton. Three years later, the campus was renamed C. W. Post to commemorate Marjorie Post's father. In 2012, the university renamed all campuses. CW Post is now the largest campus of LIU Post University, covering an area of 307 acres (125 hectares), with a 1920s historic mansion, gardens, sports fields, art studios and performing arts spaces, radio and television and radio stations. The campus is sustainable Energy facilities, and the only equestrian facility on Long Island on campus. Liu Post is the home of the NCAA II LIU Post vanguard and the home of the Tilles Performing Arts Center. The school launched its first online degree program in 2004
On March 7, 2013, LIU appointed Kimberly R. Cline as its tenth president, becoming the first woman to lead a private six-campus organization.
